DVM Blog Post - CAC in the Community

Clarendon Animal Care is exceptionally fortunate to be located in such a pet-friendly and focused community and to have such outstanding animal shelter and rescue organizations as partners - it truly makes our lives easier and even more rewarding on a regular basis!

I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight just a few of the awesome groups CAC loves working with and the win-win these partnerships can afford one another, as well as the personal value to myself and our team members who participate!

Education:

Some of the most memorable cases over my veterinary career have been those coming in from a rescue situation, since we get to see patients coming in from other parts of the country where certain diseases may be more common, or coming in from situations in which they did not have the luxury of adequate medical care.  From the hundreds of dogs we have treated for heartworm disease to the multiple limb amputations, enucleations, and involved diagnostic work-ups, these animals have provided valuable learning opportunities to our teams in countless ways.

Low-cost Services:

Our team members can often be found working with the Animal Welfare League of Arlington at their community care events and vaccine clinics.  We love the opportunity to support the Arlington pet-loving community at these events by providing discounted veterinary exams, vaccines, and microchips.   Not only does AWLA do wonderful community outreach and education, they have adopted out over 2000 animals in the past year!!   AWLA is also a wonderful source of educational opportunities, with their Smarty Pet series and various programming for kids and families.

Adoptable pets:

There is no shortage of wonderful rescue groups in the northern Virginia area, with many actually bringing pets out of higher-risk or overcrowded shelters and bringing them to our area for adoption.  Pet overpopulation is such a significant issue across the world, and adoption is a great way to help combat this.

In Action:

Here is a list of local rescue groups Clarendon Animal Care works with to provide an initial courtesy exam:

Thank you to the amazing people at these awesome local organizations, who are working tirelessly to connect pets with loving homes, provide much-needed medical care, and to educate our community on responsible pet ownership!
