DMV Blog Post Highlight - Feline Stomatitis

As a new addition to our newsletter, we will be having monthly blog posts written by the various DVMs that we have on staff - with each month being from a different Dr. about a different subject of their choice! This month’s article is about feline stomatitis and is written by Dr. Tanner; whose own cat, Oliver, was diagnosed with stomatitis at 2 years of age! Feline stomatitis is a painful inflammatory disease of the mouth that we see in cats infrequently. When severe, cats can lose weight, have bad breath, drool, drop food, eat less or stop eating, hiss or vocalize at their meals, and stop grooming. Check out this post on our blog for more info on the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of stomatitis!

Fear Free Tip of the Month

While taking the time to train your pet may seem sufficient to help them learn new tricks or behaviors - the method of training is actually a very important factor! Aversive training methods may seem quick, easy, and initially effective but they can cause long term issues for your pet, their health, and their fear/stress levels. Check out this post on the Fear Free Happy Homes website for information on why you should avoid aversive training, information on positive reinforcement, and the effects of both methods.
