Prepare for Your Pets!

Last week, many of us saw and felt the effects of the wildfires in Canada - while our area was fortunate not to experience any direct natural disaster, it is important to be prepared! You can check out this article for advice on how to keep your family and your pet prepared for natural disasters - because if it’s not safe for you, it’s not safe for them!

The most important takeaway is to create a portable pet emergency kit that includes veterinary records, water, bowls, pet food, and your pet’s medication, and store it as close to an exit as possible

How the Weight Scale Affects the FAS Scale

We’re all guilty of it - giving our pet an extra treat here or there, maybe some leftovers, or a second breakfast because they just looked too cute to say no… but how does this actually affect our pets? The obvious answer is weight gain, where almost 60 percent of cats and about 56 percent of dogs are overweight or obese, which can obviously shorten your pet’s lifespan and lower their quality of life, but it can also increase their fear, anxiety, and stress!

Take a look at this article for a review of how obesity in pets can affect your pet’s health, pain, and vet visits by adding additional fear, anxiety, and stress, and remember to celebrate small wins as even a ¼- to ½-pound weight loss can be significant for a cat or small dog!

DVM Blog Post Highlight - The Advent of Veterinary Urgent Care Hospitals

In this month’s DVM Blog post, Dr. Ungerer discusses the differences in vet care - primary, urgent, emergent - and announces the long-awaited opening of Urgent Animal Care of Arlington! While Urgent Animal Care of Arlington is owned by Dr. Ungerer and Dr. Gloor, and urgent cases will be referred there when CAC is unable to see the pet, it is not affiliated with CAC and will not share systems, records, and schedules.
